Peaceful Warrior & Childhood

26th of January 2017 – Republic Day at K.C.Thackeray Vidya Niketan, Pune.

30 kids from K.C.Thackeray got initiated as ‘Peaceful Warriors’. They stood for their main Warrior Code. Their parents put the badge on them (teachers stood by for those parents who couldn’t come). All 60 with parents included took their Warrior Oath and we ended with a warrior battle cry.

So what is a Peaceful Warrior?

A peaceful warrior is one who is navigates his/her life with the stars as guide and love written in their hearts and as the message. It is a metaphorical meaning, but one that has to be discovered by the warrior whose journey has only begun.

These children have been introduced to the way of warrior and are nurtured in making choices that affect them directly. Those who were chosen were evaluated based on the choices they choose to make and in full awareness of their consequences: The choice to be a better human being and not hurt others and oneself or the choice to engage in violence of any form.

PATCH the school dog and mascot had her own hilarious moment of puking right in the middle of the oath.

The amazing button badges were designed by Niki Ray – another TRD member who teaches, guides and nurtures their spirit.
If you spot these kids wearing them, do say hello and strike a conversation. Ask them what code they represent!

WORKSHOP IN MUMBAI & OPEN MIC

We are back again to the city of Mumbai with a limited number of seats available for our first formal TRD workshop on ‘Exploring Mental Health Through Creativity’ in partnership with Risevertise Media . Our journey of experimenting and exploring such avenues over 5 years!
Many have inquired about our workshops and events when we first begun in 2011 but due to organizational constraints, no funding and personal reasons we couldn’t continue running them.
Our venue hosted by Kiran Reddy & Shivani Gupta becomes our 2nd formally identified TRD Friendly Space and Partner. These workshops will be held every month.

Do RSVP on +91 9962161960
Our goodies will be available for purchase too.

Following the workshop, we will have all the participants of the workshop sharing their words with us. We invite everyone to join us for an evening of discovery, warmth, sharing and guaranteed hugging.
This is a safe space, free of judgement and barriers, and everyone is invited to come and share.
You can come along as a supportive audience member, a writer, speaker/performer, anything you’d like. The stage is open and awaits your presence.

A blogpost by a student from the school we work with

As I pick my pen to write I am aware I have nothing to write in particular, neither a specific topic, concern, nor a concrete belief. I am writing as if in a state I was in a month back. Therefore excuse me should the writing not have a flow and progression. These are just random and abrupt thoughts I cajoled myself with.

Exactly a month back I fell sick. It was normal-temperature, giddiness and nausea. I took medicines and rest to return to school only to deteriorate further as my limbs had started to pain. With severe headache I walked to the doctor describing my physicality. I had my blood checked to know that I had viral infection. The injections couldn’t be administered as my pulse rate was low. With each visit I tried my best to describe my health, more headache, rashes here and there and swollen limbs. However I realized the pain was deeper. It was not my body or the infection but my confidence and thinking process had stopped working all together.

A fortnight before, I had applied to a world renowned college. More than the course offered, I was mesmerized with the college and the idea of studying beyond seas and oceans. While I typed my form out, I was pretty certain for the selection, at least for an interview. There was no scope of ‘no’; it simply didn’t fit in my universe to not be approached for. I was never in the habit of … Click here to read more
